Launching back into Campaign work with a bang – with Emily Saunders, Worcester Hub Leader for #HugosEarthquake down at Worcester Guildhall tonight for a Council Scrutiny meeting – “reviewing the homelessness service”.

We are not sure what this means exactly, but we presume looking at the targets and indicators that CCP have got in the new Contract. This Contract is the one that begun in April which triggered the decommissioning of a comprehensive outreach service for rough sleepers.
As you will probably know, Cardon Banfield who died sometime in June and found in a tent rotting in July last year, was known to the old team but there was no data on him from April by the new service.

The Campaign has been fighting hard since the last few months of 2016 to get Justice for Cardon and for people who made decisions which impacted on the delay of discovery of his body, to be held accountable. The Council Officers and Politicians have not taken responsibility, and the Adult Safeguarding Board have rejected an official review we called for. The reaction to these situations has provoked an angry response from not just the Campaign but also the general public in and beyond Worcester.

Tonight, we will see homelessness being discussed in a Scrutiny meeting which hopefully will answer some unanswered questions. We don’t expect Cardon to be brought up, however he was an unfortunate victim to the catalyst of systematic failures and will be on people’s minds.

#HugosEarthquake’s #TentDeath Campaign has been brutal, hitting and harsh – but that’s because we believe someone being left to rot, decompose and smell in a tent should never happen… But even worse – for no one to accept responsibility.

Please keep an eye out on our Twitter for the latest, or the Facebook page. The meeting started at 7pm, but the service review is further down the agenda.

We await to see the outcome of this meeting before our next steps.

Thank you for supporting #JusticeForCardon, and we will not rest until we get answers.
